...How To Install the SIM-board USB Windows Driver file

Summary
This tutorial will show you how to install the USB drivers on your computer to allow SIM-board USB Modules to work. You only need to perform this installation once, the only exception to this being if you choose to later change the USB port to which your Master Module is connected to a different one on your PC. In this case, Windows will prompt you to install the driver for use on this new port as well.

You will need...

This "Show Me How..." tutorial is provided in addition to the SIM-board USB Help Documentation. It is recommended you refer to both this tutorial and the Help Documentation for your modules.

Step 1: Connect your Master Module to your PC

Ensure the USB socket marked "TO FIRST SIM-board" is disconnected from any function modules in your daisy-chain.

Connect your SIM-board USB Master Module to your PC by inserting the B-male (box) end of the USB cable into the socket marked "TO PC USB PORT" on the Master Module.

Connect the other end (the flat A-male end) to the PC USB port.

Step 2: Choose "No, not this time"

Windows will detect the new connection and pop-up a "Found New Hardware" dialog box.

To begin the installation, click on "No, not this time" and then click on "Next".

Step 3: Choose "Install from a specific location"

Choose "Install from a list or a specific location (Advanced)", then click "Next".

Step 4: Specify your Installation folder

In the next dialog, select:

  • "Search for the best driver in these locations"
  • "Include this location in the search"
  • click "Browse" and navigate to your SIM-board Universal Controller installation folder and select the "Drivers" folder.

Click "Next" to continue.

Step 5: Click on "Continue Anyway"

Click on "Continue Anyway" when Windows presents you with this dialog.

Step 6: Wait for installation to complete

Wait while Windows installs the driver. This may take a few seconds.

Step 7: Installation Complete

Once installed, Windows will tell you that is has finished the installation process. A small pop-up bubble will also notify you that the new hardware is ready for use.

Step 8: Disconnect your Master Module from your PC

Now that the driver installation is complete, disconnect your Master Module from your PC. You can now add function modules to your chain and set up your hardware on the function module nodes.

Alternatively, if you just want to get started straight away, see the tutorial on "How To Form your Daisy-Chain of USB Modules".
